Nepal & the Mystical Himalayas 2018

The mighty Himalayas rise to snowcapped peaks that are the very rooftop of the world. Sinuous green terraces wind as far as the eye can see along mountain valleys. Prayer flags adorn lively temples that reveal colorful ancient scrolls and exquisite carvings. This is Nepal. For the next 2 weeks we will explore the land and meet the people: We will Trek on stone paths threading pristine hillsides and sweeping valleys, float on a river raft through untouched forest, ride through lush jungle in search of wildlife. Our  Trip Leader, Avash added color and dimension to every moment of our trip.  We interacted with the Nepalese people where they live, farm, and pray—in the foothills of the soaring Himalayas, along the pristine Seti River, in bountiful Chitwan National Park, and in the kaleidoscopic swirl of Kathmandu and serene beauty of Pokhara. The trip to Nepal was full of discovery and was an unforgettable world of profound and ageless beauty, nestled beneath the rugged peaks of eight of the world’s ten highest mountains.

Day 1 Paro Bhutan Kathmandu, Nepal  Nov 18, 2008

Before going to Nepal, we spent a week in Bhutan. Bhutan was closed to visitors for hundreds of years. In 19XX the King of Bhutan opened Bhutan to allow visitors – but on a very limited basis. He did not want visitors to change the culture of his county.

To start our trip to Nepal we had an early morning transfer to the airport in Paro, Bhutan where we had breakfast before boarding the flight to Kathmandu, Nepal. Our Nepali Trip Leader, Avash, met us at the airport. Our luggage was loaded in the van and off we sent to our first hotel in Nepal. The chaos of Kathmandu was a big change from the laid back and quiet pace of Bhutan. You must remember Nepal experienced a major earthquake in 2015 and the repair and rebuilding efforts have been very slow. But once a little outside the city we found our hotel, The Gokarna Forest Resort, to be quite lovely. Looking out the window we saw deer and monkeys – yes we were in the middle of the forest – and we were careful when opening the windows not to allow the monkeys in the room. We quickly left our luggage in the room and went exploring to downtown Kathmandu. The Naulo Robot Restaurant was on our ToDo List. They have robots to take your order and bring you your food.  Tomorrow we start our discovery of Nepal & the Mystical Himalayas.
