We wanted some additional sight-seeing time so we arrived in Dubai U. A. E. three days before we were to embark on our month-long Norwegian cruise. From Dubai we cruised to Abu Dhabi U.A.E., Khasab Oman, Fujairah U.A.E., Muscat Oman and then on to India.

United Arab Emirates is so named because the country is a federation of seven emirates established on 2 December 1971. The seven emirates are Abu Dhabi (the capital), Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah and Ummal-Quwain. Each emirate is governed by an absolute monarch, who are called Sheiks (Pronounced SHAKE.) The Sheiks jointly form the Federal Supreme Council. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan is  President of the U.A.E. and the emir of Abu Dhabi.  Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is Prime Minister of the UAE and emir of Dubai.
