Our Travels Around The World Travel to Greenland

HOME Our Travels

We had a very early flight from Iceland’s Reykjavik airport to Kulusuk Greenland.  It was a short, but extremely difficult, hike from the Kulusuk airport to the village. The local guide took us through deep snow-covered valleys and up snow-covered hills that felt like mountains.

The scenery was magnificent. It was like walking on the moon but through snow rather than sand. From the top of one hill it was easier to sit and slide down rather than try  to hike down. On the way to Kulusuk we passed the Kulusuk cemetery

Once in the village we visited a small private museum and were treated to a dance performance by a local Kulusuk villager. We were not looking forward to the trip back to the airport through the snow. Luckily the local boys had their sleds dogs ready to ferry us back to the airport for a small sum (yes it was cheeky but worth not trudging back through the snow.)

The pilot was concerned about our flight back to Reykjavik. He said there was bad weather coming in and was afraid that thick fog would ground our flight. We had a good flight back - no problem.
